About Us

Melanie Coppola I’m Melanie Coppola – a professional marketer with over 20 years’ experience from organisations large and small. I’m also a passionate photographer, and have been interested in photography since I began playing with my parent’s cameras when I was a kid. Since then, I’ve dabbled with film cameras, point & shoots, digital video cameras, and most recently, DSLRs and decent glass.

What I love about the people I’ve met in the photography community is their willingness to share ideas (and gear), and to really support each other as they learn their craft, then begin to make the move from amateur photography into commercial photography. It’s an exciting journey, and the difference between becoming a successful commercial photographer is more often a function of how well a person can market themselves. Unfortunately skill and talent is not enough – the most successful businesses are driven by great marketing.

Having marketed everything from systems management software to information, consumer technology to holistic therapies, I have seen how marketing has evolved from the traditional days of trade shows and print advertising to this whole, exciting world of online and inbound marketing. I love social media and have been a heavy user for years. I love the way it connects people and allows for even faster information exchange.

The purpose of this blog is to bring together those things which I’m most passionate about – marketing and photography. More importantly, I hope to make it a useful resource, with not only my own thoughts, observations and ideas about how you can grow your photography business, but also the opinions and experience of photographers from around the world, who inspire me.
